The Whisky Pricing Survey - UK Online Supermarkets

AGE IS NO BARRIER TO NEW WHISKY. My new report “THE UK ONLINE SUPERMARKET WHISKY PRICING SURVEY“ highlights that the traditional model for whisky pricing pioneered by Scottish Whisky based on age is breaking down, with new brands from emerging whisky regions (and whiskies from new brands in traditional areas) often commanding a premium compared to more established brands and older whiskies.

The new report looks at the structure of the online supermarket whisky market.

The report is 32 PAGES long and covers 572 Whiskies stocked by seven retailers; five main supermarket retailers (Waitrose, Ocado, Sainsbury’s, Tescos, ASDA and Morrisons) plus two specialist alcohol retail Majestic and BB&R.

THE AIM behind the survey is to understand the relative structure of Scottish Whisky Pricing versus New Craft Whisky Pricing in UK online retailers / supermarkets; and to assess the implications of the (different) approaches.

Identify common pricing approaches based on age statements within an online retailer and across online retailers. Breakdown data by online Retailer,  Country and by Brand.

IT ANSWERS THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS:

Is age still the determining factor in Whisky pricing for Scottish Whisky / other regions in online retailers or is the actual driver scarcity / rarity?

Do new craft brands follow the “Scottish model” or is there another?

Is there a difference across online retailers, if so what is it?

Is there a difference across whisky regions, if so what is it?
